Hi, and thanks for popping in to check out this blog!

I wanted to start out by sharing how Rudie Nudie Designs came about, and the story behind it.

I'm Jacqui and I’m a proud mum to my two favourite little people, who absolutely melt my heart, but who also like to teach me a lot about parenting and myself! When I first had my daughter, I never thought it was going to be easy being a mum, but I was also really surprised at how hard [yet amazing!] I found it. I thought that as a capable and intelligent woman, I should be able to grasp this parenting gig, but I found it to be one of the hardest things I have ever done. I often wished that there could have been more support, perhaps a midwife or maternal health nurse who was in closer contact. The midwives and maternal health nurses were amazing, but without regular contact with you and your baby, it’s hard for them to see exactly what is going on and to have the right answers.

I actually believed that I had it quite hard - it took me 6 weeks before I could breastfeed properly and then silent reflux and food intolerances set in. I’ve since realised that most mums find it challenging, even with comfortable babies who feed and sleep quite well, and there are definitely so many mums who have it a lot harder than I did.

Ever since I became a mum, I have always wanted to find a role where I can help out new mums in some way. It was probably why I was always thinking about what sorts of products could be useful for babies, and how the Rudie Nudie playmats ended up coming to life. The playmats were something that I wished I had when my two were babies. I had heard that nappy-free playtime was important for babies and great for their development. I found it incredibly messy though - there would always be lots of things to wash and more often than not, there would be an accident on the carpet. When I searched around to see what products were out there, I was really surprised that there weren’t any waterproof playmats around, so I set about developing one.

As the development progressed and the Rudie Nudie playmats were coming to life, it dawned on me that I could create quite a supportive community around it all. I could help create content that could help new mums on their newborn journey. It felt like all of the pieces of the puzzle were coming together - I could create a business, but at the same time, fill a passion of mine through helping others.

It has taken a little while to finally create this blog, but I’m really looking forward to building this little mum village, and if it can help a few new mums with some useful resources, then my heart will be happy. There are some great interviews coming up with experts and I can’t wait to share it with you.
